8/13/2026- 13 years and 2 days after I published and almost 15 years since I started writing in December 2011
It has been many years since I wrote this blog and I realized I had one more very important post to write! Rudyard Lake, UK was the beginning of my story and was always front and center for me! I had stumbled upon it by accident and made it the setting for my story without ever visiting it in person. When I finished and published my story I thought I would never be able to visit in person, it was just a distant dream and number one on my bucket list at that point in 2013. Fast forward, 10 years later, to 2023 and I was finally able to visit my beloved lake and meet Ray Perry, the Chairman of the Lake Trust, who I had communicated with all those years.
My daughter was participating in a month long study abroad program through her college, Salisbury University. For the month of July 2023 she lived on campus at Stirling University in Stirling Scotland. I decided that while she was there I could go for a week to visit her, my first international trip! My sister, Amy, decided to go with me. She also mentioned that while we was there we had to figure out how to visit Rudyard Lake too! I spent a lot of time figuring out the logistics but we did it! After a beautiful week in Scotland we spend 2 nights on the lake! Ray was wonderful in showing us around, along with 2 of his friends. We rode the train that Ava loved to ride and learned a little more about the history of the lake. I was also able to see exactly where the Double Sunset takes place! It was a day I will never ever forget and being able to spend it with my sister, who edited the story, was an amazing experience! Below are some pictures from that visit I will cherish forever.
